About

The idea of a philosopher-librarian has intrigued me for some time. As one who works in the library field I often wondered what thoughts other librarians had on the subject of philosophy. I read a book some time ago titled The Hamlet Syndrome: Overthinkers Who Underachieve, by Adreinne Miller. Some where in the book it was stated that librarianship was one of careers that “Hamlets” choose simplely because they could not decide on a career . I suppose I might put myself in that category. So, as a “Hamlet” I started this blog to find what other think about that assumption?

I am a library consultant in up state NY with an interest in philosophy. My specific interest is in phenomenology and existentialism. That does not appear to fit with my profession. How does one reconcile a philosophy of existentialism with a profession that categorizes the world in the pursuit of knowledge? But here I am.

Just in reply to your reply on my post…..

Well, actually, I decided on this career. Thank you for your implications, I guess, but I am currently both thinking and achieving at a nice mid-level, of which I am perfectly content with.
